Eve

Molly was about to pay a visit to London. She was coming, alone, for three whole days, to attend the christening of her brother Liam’s newest baby. Mario was on a business trip to Scandinavia which couldn’t be cancelled, and so the children were going to be looked after by Graziana.

‘I’m so looking forward to seeing you and Vanessa again,’ she said on the phone to Eve, ‘and catching up on all the gossip, not to mention getting a few days away from this crazy lot.’

Over the years, Eve had visited her several times in Frascati. Molly, Mario and the three boys lived in a three-bedroomed apartment with glorious wrought-iron balconies outside every room and far-reaching views. The children were adorable but very noisy, and Eve swore that she could still hear their little voices reverberating inside her head for days after she got home. It would be good to talk without kids in the background. Furthermore, Vanessa had asked them to lunch, and that was a first.
